Cooking and Eating the Harvest

with Chef Micah

Sometimes the eating gets ahead of the cooking -- so back to the cooking! But first to retrieve the produce....

Farmer Micah's Pallet Garden

MICAH'S SUMMER ACTIVITIES 2012

FARMER MICAH'S
PALLET GARDEN

The pallet garden has four sides and four troughs at the top to plant things in. Micah  and Karen explore the strawberry plants in the pallet garden.

Found a strawberry, wonder if it's ready?

First you taste test --

Then you try another --

 And you look for more!

Watering is not my favorite but someone's got to do it.

Now I moved to the beets in the top and cucumbers on the side part of my garden.

This side has beans, more strawberries and carrots. We did pull a few weeds.

My first cucumber was ready but I didn't like the pickers on it.

This garden had peas and carrots. I searched through the leaves and found peas for my lunch (more on the eating later).

Karen (my intervener) is modeling my large purple carrot that I grew in the trough of the pallet garden. The carrot is orange inside they tell me, whatever, I ate it anyway -- tasted like a carrot!

Some days I went to the bigger gardens to find different plants and vegetables to try -- broccolini, squash, peppers, eggplant, cabbage, ........... and lots of tomatoes.

Another pepper to add to my lunch.

Micah's choices for lunch today.  Other days I went to the orchard to check on the peaches and blueberries.

This was the only peach to survive the spring frost. It was delicious! I enjoyed the blueberries also.
